I’m curious. Have you thought about booking a photo session for your family? Maybe you’ve even found some photographers you like, but you still haven’t gotten around to actually booking them. Here are some of the reasons I’ve found people don’t book their family portrait session…
Life is too busy and I’m stressed. Family photographs are not a priority right now.
I need to lose weight. Once I lose weight, I’ll book a photographer.
It’s too expensive.
I wouldn’t know what to wear
I’m worried about how my kids will behave
Studio photography isn’t for me
Our child was professionally photographed when he was a baby, that’s enough
Please, allow me to address your concerns :)
Life is too busy - I get it, you have a job/career/family/friends/activities/phone scrolling to do(!), etc. You’re a busy person. Did you know though that life can change on a dime? Unfortunately, I know better than many that sometimes you just don’t get an opportunity for another family portrait. Sometimes family members die unexpectedly. It can happen to anyone’s family. What then? If you are all alive and relatively healthy, then that’s a good enough reason to book a family session.
I need to lose weight - Do you know your children don’t care what size you are? If anything happens to you, will your children have photographs to remember you by? Will there be photos of you and your children together? Do you know it’s your heart that they love, your eyes, and your smile. It’s actually not about you at all, it’s about creating beautiful memories for your children and family.
It’s too expensive - Do you say that when you make a trip to Ikea and drop 10,000SEK on flat-packed furniture that you will probably sell again in a few years anyway? Beautiful photography is an investment. It’s an investment in your family’s legacy. I want lots of families to book a Jolly session and that’s why I offer payment plans. All families deserve beautiful, timeless, natural portraits :)
I wouldn’t know what to wear - Did you that when you book a Jolly photo session you receive a complimentary style guide, packed full of great tips of what to wear and, most importantly, what not to wear! You will be guided through the whole experience!
I’m worried about how my kids will behave - Why not let them just be kids? Let them run, let them play, let them pout. They are what they are, right? I am not the Crocodile Dundee of children, I don’t try to control them or force them to smile. And yet, we still get beautiful, natural portraits of them. No Cheesy MacCheesy here!
Studio photography is not for me - Well guess what, I shoot all on location, which means we can photograph your family in your own home, or being the big outdoor lover that I am, we can go to a park/lake/hilltop, etc. And the good news is that all the mosquitoes in the area will come directly to me and feed on me, so your family will be safe! ;)
Our baby was photographed, that’s enough - NO! NO! NO! NO! That is NOT enough. Yes, babies are adorable, but those babies grow into equally adorable children, tweens, teens, young adults! Of course you need to document those years, too! It’s a no-brainer, people!
By this point, you should have zero doubts about booking a family session. It needs to be a regular occurrence for your family, like getting your teeth cleaned, only much more fun!
I’ll leave you with this beautiful family session I did last month. It was my second time to photograph this gorgeous family and I was so honored! The dad even treated us to a piece on his sax at the end of the session - possibly the best ending to a session ever!
